How name numerology works

In Pythagorean numerology every letter carries a number from 1 to 9. You add up the letters of your name, then keep adding the digits until one number is left. The master numbers 11, 22 and 33 are kept as they are.

  • Expression number: every letter of your full birth name. Your natural talents and how you earn.
  • Heart's desire (also called soul urge): the vowels A, E, I, O and U. What you truly want.
  • Personality number: the consonants. How other people see you at first.

Example: ANNA = 1 + 5 + 5 + 1 = 12, and 1 + 2 = 3. Her Expression number is 3.

What each number means

    Name vs. birthday numbers

    Your name shows how you express yourself; your birthday shows the path you walk. Your life path comes from your full birth date, and combining it with your Expression number gives what Abundance Code calls your abundance number.     Questions

    Should I use my birth name or my current name?

    Traditional numerology uses your full name as it appears on your birth certificate for your core numbers. Some people also calculate a nickname or married name to see the energy they use day to day.

    Is this calculator Pythagorean or Chaldean?

    Pythagorean. Letters are numbered 1 to 9 in alphabet order (A=1 through I=9, then J=1 again). Chaldean numerology uses a different chart and only goes up to 8.

    What are master numbers?

    11, 22 and 33 are called master numbers. When a total reaches one of them, it is not reduced further.

    Is Y a vowel in numerology?

    Systems differ. This calculator counts only A, E, I, O and U as vowels, the same as the Abundance Code app.
